About the Role: Safety Assistant
Job Title: Safety Assistant
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The Safety Assistant will support the implementation and enhancement of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices across Emirates Flight Catering’s facilities in compliance with ISO 45001:2018 standards. The role aims to ensure a safe, healthy, and legally compliant workplace by identifying hazards, minimizing risks, and maintaining strong safety performance throughout the organization.
Reporting to the Safety Specialist, this position plays a vital role in maintaining continuous monitoring, risk assessment, and awareness of all safety operations within EKFC.
Key Responsibilities
The main duties of the Safety Assistant include:
- Conducting random inspections and audits to identify hazards, risks, and areas for improvement.
- Supporting department heads and supervisors in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitoring environmental factors such as lighting, ventilation, and noise to ensure employee well-being.
- Ensuring proper maintenance and calibration of safety equipment.
- Coordinating fire safety inspections, fire drills, and first aid readiness.
- Monitoring contractor compliance with EKFC’s OHS policies through random worksite checks.
- Assisting in incident and accident reporting, investigation, and documentation.
- Preparing daily shift reports highlighting safety observations and non-conformances.
- Updating safety noticeboards and maintaining the visibility of safety posters.
- Conducting toolbox talks, safety briefings, and internal awareness campaigns.
- Supporting Health and Safety Committee meetings and implementing agreed action plans.
- Promoting compliance with ISO 45001:2018 standards in all day-to-day activities.
This position requires flexibility to work in 24/7 operational environments, including shifts, on-call support, and emergency response when required.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Education:
- NEBOSH International or General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Mandatory)
- ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor Certification (Preferred)
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in occupational health and safety.
- Experience in large-scale industrial, catering, or aviation environments is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of OHS legislation and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
- Strong planning, time management, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
